Vail vs. Beaver Creek: Which Is Right for Your Vacation?
Choosing between Vail and Beaver Creek is one of the first decisions many visitors make. Both can be wonderful places for a mountain getaway, but the best fit depends on your group, your plans, and what you want outside your front door.
Having called the Vail Valley home since 2001, I like to start with a simple question: what does your ideal vacation day look like?
Start with the experience you want
Perhaps you picture walking to breakfast, spending the day on the mountain, and meeting friends for dinner. Or perhaps your perfect evening is a quiet meal at home after a full day together.
Your lodging location should support that picture. A beautiful property can still be the wrong fit if getting to your activities becomes a daily project.
Look closely at Vail’s villages
Vail Village and Lionshead give you different places to base your stay. Lionshead has pedestrian access to the Eagle Bahn Gondola, shops, and restaurants. Vail Mountain notes that the two villages are connected by a walk of roughly 10 to 15 minutes or the complimentary in-town bus. Your actual walk will depend on where you stay and where you are going. Explore Vail’s villages and transportation.
If you want to explore on foot, compare a property's exact address with the restaurants, lifts, and meeting points you plan to use. Families should check the location of their booked lessons rather than assuming every activity begins at the same base area.
Consider how Beaver Creek fits your plans
Beaver Creek Village brings dining, shopping, and resort activities together in an alpine village setting. The resort also offers complimentary Village Connect transportation throughout its villages. Check service coverage for your particular lodging and current operating details before relying on it. See Beaver Creek transportation options.
For your group, the deciding factor may be proximity to a lesson meeting point, an easy arrival, or a property with space to gather after the day's activities.
Choose the property as carefully as the destination
Before booking, consider bedrooms, bathrooms, stairs, parking, equipment storage, and the route from the property to your plans. Ask what “walk to the lifts” means in practical terms, especially when traveling with children or anyone with mobility needs.
You do not have to choose the destination in isolation. Comparing specific properties in both places often makes the decision much clearer.
